Autism
Autism Youth Transition Program
The goal of the Autism Youth Transition Program is to provide skill based training to individual youth with Autism to ease their transition into high school and adolescence.
Description of Services
- Provide information, support and education to parents regarding the emotional and developmental needs of children with Autism.
- Provide families and youth and/or others involved with the youth support and education regarding
- individualized, positive, consistent behavioural supports.
- Crisis intervention
- Counselling and family support.
- Individual skill based training for the youth.
- Behavioural supports
- Liaison between home and school where required.
- Mentorship and coaching
- Community teaching
Admission Criteria
- Youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Communication where there are significant deficits in language development.
- Social functioning where there are significant deficits in social development.
- Responsiveness to the environment that is developmentally abnormal and may include peculiar interest in, or attachment to, animate and objects, resistance to change and stereotypic behaviours.
Exclusion Criteria
- Children who do not meet the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Catchment area outside district
- Any youth that does not meet eligibility criteria
