Project Lead
Project LEAD (Leadership through Engaging youth Awareness of Resources and Developing partnerships) is a for youth, by youth mental health public education project generously funded by a two year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. OTF is an agency of the government of Ontario .
Project LEAD is an exciting new initiative that allows youth to identify mental health issues relevant within our community. We have recruited an active youth group called “DEAL” (Developing Engaged Adolescent Leaders). This group meets regularly to discuss mental health topics, learn about mental health, mental illness and leadership. They will be developing youth-friendly materials, holding a large conference for other youth within the community, and taking a lead role in a public awareness campaign for child and youth mental health.
Project LEAD also has a steering committee comprised of various agencies in the City and District of Thunder Bay, including Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Thunder Bay Public Library, Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Lakehead District School Board, Thunder Bay Children’s Aid Society, Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board, Multicultural Association of Northwestern Ontario, Thunder Bay Counselling Centre, St. Joseph’s Care Group, and Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, in addition to youth representatives. A primary goal of this committee is to develop a mental health public education resource inventory that will inform the community about learning opportunities or events relevant to mental health.
