Autism Assessments

Referrals may be made to the Autism Team at Children's Centre Thunder Bay when families have concerns about their child’s social development, communication and behaviour. The interdisciplinary team includes an Autism Family Worker, Psychological Associate and Speech-Language Pathologist. Children under the age of 5 in the Thunder Bay area are eligible for this service.

An initial screening is first completed to determine the appropriateness of the referral. The assessment process includes observing the child in different environments, gathering information from collateral sources, and completing a formal assessment. Once an assessment has been completed, results and recommendations are shared with the family. The Autism Family Worker will assist the family with referrals to other appropriate community resources as necessary.
