FAMILYCOURT CLINIC: Triple P – Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is a community-based initiative hosted by the Children’s Centre Thunder Bay. Triple P is a multi-level, parenting and family support strategy. Triple P aims to prevent behavioural, emotional and developmental problems in children, by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents. The system was developed by Professor Matt Sanders and colleagues from the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland . Triple P incorporates five levels of intervention of increasing strength for parents of children from birth to age 12. Recently, the program has been extended to address the concerns of parents of youth people aged 12 to 16. Triple P suggests simple routines and small changes that can make a big difference to a family. It helps parents understand the way their family works and uses the things that parents already say, think, feel and do in new ways that: Create a stable, supportive and harmonious family.
While Triple P is almost always successful in improving child behaviour problems, more than half its emphasis is on developing positive attitudes, skills and behaviour. This helps prevent problems arising and fosters family relationships that encourage children to realize their full potential. Triple P has been developed and scientifically proven over 25 years by the University of Queensland Parent and Family Support Centre, with international collaboration. The system is widely in use throughout Australia and increasingly, throughout the world. Referrals
