Autism Youth Transition Program (AYTP)
Who Can Use This Service?
Youth and their families are eligible to receive this service if
- The youth is between the age of 11 and 17
- The youth has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and are experiencing mental health difficulties that are impacting the family and school
- The youth consents to the service being offered
What Is Offered?
Youth and their family receive both individual and family treatment which may involve counsellling, skill development, advocacy, support, and education. There is regular contact with both the family and school to facilitate the treatment and transition process.
How Can This Service Help?
The Autism Youth transition program can help the youth
- Acquire a more in-depth understanding their diagnosis, their strengths and needs
- Transition into high school and make more positive adjustments
- Develop the skills to cope with anxiety, social situations, communication issues and school demands
The Autism Youth transition program can help the family
- Acquire a more in-depth understanding of the youth's diagnosis, developmental stage and mental health issues
- Parent more effectively
- Navigate school transitions and manage school adjustment issues
- Advocate and collaborate more effectively with the schools and other service providers
Families can also expect that other professionals will be accessed, with consent, if multidisciplinary consultation is needed to address more complex needs of a medical or psychological nature.
