Who Can Use This Service?

What Is Offered?

The Triple P Positive Parenting Program is a multi-level, parenting and family support strategy that aims to prevent severe behavioural, emotional and developmental problems in children by enhancing the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents. It is an evidenced-based parenting program which works for the majority of families. The Triple P Positive Parenting Program is a community-wide initiative and various levels of the program are offered throughout the city and district of Thunder Bay.

How Will This Service Help?

Triple P helps parents to:

Streams Level 3 - Primary Care

This is a 4-session intervention that provides active skills training for parents of children with specific mild to moderate behavioural difficulties. It provides individual consultation sessions over a 1-2 month period.

Level 4 - Group

This is an intensive 8 to 10-session parenting program. The group format incorporates individual sessions as well. It is for parents of children (2-12 years old) with more severe behavioural difficulties. It focuses on a variety of parenting skills that may be applied to multiple contexts.

Level 4 - Teen

This is a preventative program that incorporates 6 group sessions with 2 individual sessions. It aims to promote positive, caring relationships between parents and their teenagers (12-16 years old) while helping parents to develop effective management strategies for dealing with a variety of adolescent behaviour problems and common developmental issues (i.e. demanding, disobedient, defiant, aggressive or generally disruptive behaviour).

Level 5 - Pathways

This 5-session parenting program is designed as an adjunctive intervention for parents who often experience difficulties managing their emotions, particularly with controlling anger. Some parents may have additional difficulties such as depression, high levels of stress and relationship conflict.

How Can You Find Out More Or Access This Service?

All referrals for the Children's Centre's Triple P Positive Parenting Program are processed through the Intake Services. Parents may access service by requesting an appointment with an Intake Services staff who will work with you to determine whether Triple P is an appropriate treatment option. If a family is involved with the Children's Aid Society, a referral for Triple P services may be made directly by their CAS worker with the parents' permission.
