Learning Assessments
Who Can Use This Service?
This is a fee-for-service program.
Children's Centre provides Learning Assessments on children and youth between the age of 6 and 17. A fee is charged for this service.
Children or youth attending the Lakehead Public School System who have been identified as requiring an assessment may be referred to the Centre for an assessment through their school Facilitator.
Learning Assessments can also be purchased privately by parents or other professionals.
What Is Offered?
A Learning Assessment generally consists of an Intellectual Assessment as well as additional psycho-educational testing as required to assess learning strengths, weaknesses and processes.
How will this service help?
A Learning Assessment will provide information on a child's level of intellectual functioning and will identify learning strengths and weaknesses. Based on this information appropriate decisions can be made regarding school placement and programming.
A Learning Assessment can be used to identify Learning Disabilities and other special learning needs.
How Can You Find Out More Or Access This Service?
- If you feel your child would benefit from a Learning Assessment, talk to your child's teacher to discuss the possibility of having one done.
- The school facilitator will do some initial achievement testing with your child, prior to any referral. Based on those results further assessment may or may not be recommended.
- If you would like to access a private assessment (fee for service) call Children's Centre at 343-5000 and ask to speak to the Program Manager for Learning Assessments.
