Long Term Residential Services (Lansdowne & Riverview)
Who Can Use This Service?
This is a fee-for-service residential program, which includes a base per diem rate and extra staffing resources as required.
Eligibility for this program:
- Youth between the ages of 10-17
- Youth who are high-needs in nature; experiencing severe and long-standing social, emotional and behavioral difficulties These youth are generally unable to manage at home or in a foster-home setting and have experienced multiple placement breakdowns.
- These youth are generally in the care of a children's aid society or have designated funding from the ministry to receive specialized services.
- An alternative place of residence, including foster care or a regular group home is not available for these youth.
What Is Offered?
The youth are provided with a safe, structured and therapeutic home-environment staffed by qualified Child and Youth Workers. A variety of professionals are also available to support the youth in the program including social work, psychology and nursing. Psychiatric consultation is available, as needed. Programming focuses on stabilization, mental health treatment, emotional regulation, physical health and nutrition, skill development and recreation. Case management services are provided to coordinate services internal and external to the centre.
How Will This Service Help?
- Will assist the youth to improve their emotional, social and behavioural functioning.
- Will foster the development of the youth's skills to help them reach their potential for safety and success in their community.
- Promote school adjustment and achievement. A specialized school option is available within CCTB residential services if required.
- Encourage participation in pro-social recreation and leisure activities.
- Assist the youth to maintain contact with family and significant others whenever possible.
- Provide an intensive, integrated multi-disciplinary residential treatment setting that will address the long-term treatment needs of the youth. This is done in coordination with the referring agent, guardian and relevant service providers.
- Promote the development of self-reliant and community-appropriate living skills for the purpose of a successful transition out-of-the-program. This transition may include a return to the family home, a foster placement, independent living, entry into adult services (if applicable) and so forth.

Of note is that this is a fee-for-service residential placement. Given the cost of placing a child in this intensive therapeutic treatment home, referrals are generally made and funded by child welfare agencies, or the Ministry of Children and Youth via the Service System Coordination process.
