Youth Justice Services
The Youth Justice Services team provides services in four key areas:
Section 34 Assessments are mental health assessments which are ordered by the court
Mental health consultation services are available to Creighton Youth Services, Kairos and Probation
SOAR Dialectical Behaviour Therapy program is for youth in custody
SHARP is an intensive treatment program for youth who have been charged and convicted of committing sexual offences
Who Can Use This Service?
This service is only available to youth and their families who are involved in the youth justice system. Often youth are mandated into the service. More specifically, youth and their families are eligible for services if,
- The youth is twelve to nineteen years of age and are before the Courts as a result of committing offences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act
- The Youth is involved in services and programs in the Youth Justice sector, such as Probation, Kairos, and Creighton Youth Services.
Further,
- The SHARP treatment program is only offered to youth who have been convicted of a sexual offence , and referred by probation .
- Section 34 Assessments can only be ordered by the courts.
What Is Offered?
- Court ordered Section 34 assessments, including Psychological, Psychiatric and Social Work assessment
- Consultation to staff in Youth Justice custodial facilities and other youth justice service providers
- DBT group and/or individual counselling to youth involved in the Youth Justice system, as well as other youth with significant conduct and behavioural problems
- Treatment program for adolescent sex offenders.
How Will This Service Help?
With Youth Justice Assessments, we provide in depth information to the Courts regarding a youth's family, community, psychological and mental health functioning and needs to assist the Court in determining appropriate intervention and dispositions for youth.
With our Youth Justice consultation, we provide mental health consultation to youth justice service providers to assist in planning and the development of appropriate treatment interventions for youth
With the SHARP program, we provide in-depth community based treatment for youth who have committed sexual offences.
