Clinical Philosophy
The Children's Centre Thunder Bay provides assessment, treatment, consultation and education services to children and their families with identified mental health problems. The Children's Centre believes that every child is a unique human being whose needs are best met within the context of his/her family and community. Our services recognize and uphold the rights, autonomy and dignity of children and families. Our services recognize and respect the range of family constellations that exist in our society. Our services support and respect cultural diversity in relation to race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual preference, physical ability, or economic status. Access to service is provided without prejudice based upon the child's and family's identified need and our capacity to meet that need.
To this end, the Children's Centre Thunder Bay is committed to:
• Providing a welcoming, safe, non-judgmental environment
for clients, staff and community members.
• Using a collaborative inclusive approach which recognizes
and values the richness of human diversity.
• Meeting client's needs with the most clinically appropriate
and least intrusive service available.
• Using a multidisciplinary approach together with a
bio-psycho-social framework in the assessment and
treatment of children's mental health issues.
• Emphasizing the strengths, resources and capacities of
children, parents and families.
• Ensuring that staff have the necessary values, knowledge
and skills to develop, deliver and evaluate high quality clinical
services.
• Developing a range of services that is based upon the best
scientific evidence available.
• Being accountable to our clients, community and other
stakeholders in the delivery
