Day Treatment Program

The Day Treatment Program is a school-based program that provides mental health intervention and a modified academic program for youth who are struggling to succeed in their present academic environment. The program is designed for students in grades 2 through 6 who's academic success is hindered by social, emotional, and/or behavioural struggles, and where mental health assessment and treatment could be beneficial.  

The Day Treatment Program includes: 

•  Specialized classrooms in which students attend a modified school day. 
•  Academic instruction from a board-certified teacher, as well as mental health treatment from child and youth Workers 
• A social worker (case manager) to support each student and their family, while the classroom staff is supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team at Children's Centre Thunder Bay. 

The program's goal is to provide effective assessment and treatment in an effort to bolster the student's ability to function in school, as well as, to enhance the family's capacity to support their child through that process. The priority is to return the student to their home school at completion of service with a collaborative transition plan between Day Treatment classroom and the home school  

Active participation from the student's parent/guardian(s) is required. 

Referrals: 

• The student's home school Principal will complete referral form with parent/guardian 
• The principal will forward referral to their Board's respective Special Education Facilitator/ Coordinator who will review, prioritize and forward to CCTB Intake
